It’s currently 116 degrees out. I’m not exaggerating… that’s really what the temperature is reading. And while I’d normally stay inside and hide from the sun like a vampire, some days there’s just no way around it. So, today I’m sharing some of my personal styling tips for beating the heat.

TIP #1 GET LOOSE, BUT NOT TOO LOOSE
The idea that “bigger is better” isn’t always true when talking about summer fashion. Yes, flowy pieces can help keep you cool, but if they’re too big they end up sticking to your skin. Opt for somewhat structured pieces, like this yellow top from h&m, that allow for some air flow, but won’t cling to you.
TIP #2 SHOW SOME SKIN, BUT SLATHER ON THE SPF
Sometimes shorts are the only way to go. I personally love Free People shorts because they aren’t too short or too tight. They hit at just the right spot on my thigh AND on my waist. I have about three pairs and keep them in constant rotation throughout the summer.
TIP #3 SKIP THE SKINNIES
If things are really heating up in your neck of the woods, try skipping the skinny jeans and opt for a boyfriend style with a slimmer fit. Some brands refer to them as “girlfriend” jeans. (Click here for an example). They’re a little roomier, which make them extra comfortable and flattering.
TIP #4 TRY NOT TO TUCK
If you don’t have to tuck in your top, don’t. The extra fabric against your skin can feel uncomfortable if you’re sweating. Instead, try tops that hit at your waist, like the one I’m wearing in these photos. You’ll still look put together, but you won’t feel as constricted.
TIP #5 STICK TO STRAPPY SANDALS
Sport some sandals with straps! The added structure will keep them on your feet, and you won’t have to worry about slipping out of them.
TIP #6 SWITCH UP YOUR MAKEUP ROUTINE
I plan on doing a full post about this later, but I thought I could at least touch on it here. I like switching to CC cream in the summer because it’s so lightweight. To keep it from melting off, I set it with MAC Makeup’s Next to Nothing Powder. I’ve linked some of my other beauty products used for this look above for you. But, stay tuned for a more in depth summer makeup post coming soon!

Your top is so cute and love the fringe bag too! I recently got a pair of slightly wide-leg pants made of a thin material and they’re amazing, so light and breezy for the summer.
Oh they sound great! i love wide leg pants for summer 🙂
You look so chic! Yellow looks amazing on you, especially against your white-blonde hair. Love your tips for beating the heat, I have a no skinnies rule for the summer lol!
