FIVE TIPS FOR PLANNING THE BEST BABYMOON

Babymoon, tips, travel tips, pregnant, pregnancy, maternity, third trimester, traveling while pregnant,

A babymoon is a great opportunity for you and your partner to get in some quality time before your little one arrives. We loved ours so much that I wanted to do a post dedicated to what we learned from our trip. It really is such an amazing experience, so you’ll want to do it right.

Tip #1 Talk With Your Doctor

According to the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the safest time to travel is between 18 and 24 weeks. But, everyone is different! I would just make sure to talk to your doctor before you start planning any travel. For instance, my OB/GYN said it’s fine to travel up to about a month out from our due date. Also, if you’re flying you may want to check with the airline to make sure they’ll let you on the plane. Cruise lines also have restrictions.

Tip #2 Ask About International Travel

Before booking that trip to Costa Rica, have a convo with your doc about any vaccinations you may need. You’ll also want to peep the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to see if there’s anything you need to be aware of or areas you should avoid.

Tip #3 Think Locally

I knew that if we traveled somewhere far I would be nervous about the distance between us and our doctor. We decided to go to Santa Barbara, which is about a 5.5 hour drive from where we live (also about an hour flight should we need to rush home for any reason).

But, it would also be fun to explore your own city or town. Check out local bed and breakfast spots. Is there a nice hotel you’ve always wanted to stay in? Check into the spa and relax with your significant other. Do whatever makes you feel special and spend some alone time to connect with your partner. You’ll appreciate it, trust me!

Tip #4 Take it Easy

This is supposed to be a relaxing time, so going on a long hike or planning out activities for the entire day may be a little too much. We made a pact to “go wherever the wind blows us” and it was so much fun! We ended up exploring really cool local shops, finding a festival, grabbing food on the pier and taking naps on the beach. It was relaxing, but packed with a little adventure. The best part was that we were together just enjoying each others company.

Tip #5 Move Around During Travel

Whether you’re traveling by car or plane, you’ll want to make sure you get up about every two hours to get your blood flowing. This will lessen the risk of blood clots and prevent swelling. This won’t be hard to remember as you’ll probably have to get up to pee about every hour anyways!

I hope this helps you when planning your own personal babymoon! Where would you go/did you go to get away before baby’s arrival?

Love, Lindsey
