Want to know how to throw a WILD ONE birthday party? Here’s how to do it on a budget…
My baby is now officially a toddler. I can still remember writing him a letter before he was born. Leading up to his first birthday party, I really didn’t think I was going to do much with decorations. But, then I re-read the book, “Where the Wild Things are” and I thought it would be fun to have that as a theme. He’s wild. He’s cool. I wanted him to wear a crown. So that was that.
I wanted to do everything on a budget (I mean… he’s not going to remember it anyways!) but I also wanted it to look cute. A couple of these things we already had from previous parties and what not. I’ll link everything for you at the end of this post (including his little crown, which is so comfortable he actually wore it most of the day!)
We actually already had these little chalkboard signs (they come in a three pack). They were perfect to put up around the house with little quotes from “Where the Wild Things are”.
We got these palm leaves from Party City. Leaf garland found here and single wall decorations here – we bought two packs). Forewarning… if you’re taping them to the ceiling… use duct tape. Packing tape doesn’t work and they kept falling down before the party. Would’ve saved me a lot of time if I just used duct tape from the beginning.
Love these little cupcake decorations! We just bought regular chocolate and vanilla cupcakes with buttercream icing on top and stuck these little guys in them to add some fun.
How cute is this cake topper?
Another little chalkboard sign. We had our guests write notes in the book so we’d always have a little keepsake from Ollie’s first birthday party.
These little placecard holders are a great way to add little quotes from the book around food, bevies, whatever you want!
One of my favorite decorations from Ollie’s party! These can be used as a banner (string included), but I wanted to pin it to a cork board. I took the photos from each month and put them in his baby book after the party.
We have had this big chalkboard sign in our house since we first moved in. I think we got it from Hobby Lobby. We write little messages on it when it’s anyone’s birthday, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, holidays, or when guests come in town. We put a little framed photo of Ollie’s first photos beside it. He was only 11 days old when that photo was taken!
This baby crown is so soft, Ollie actually wore it for most of the party! I was so surprised. Also love the “Wild One” onesie.
Yes, I wore a jungle themed dress.
We already had these vine decorations (still don’t know where I’m going to put them in the house). They ended up being the perfect back drop mixed with some plants we already had and the WILD ONE balloons we found on amazon. Don’t try and tape these balloons! String them and secure the string to the wall/ceiling. Trust me.
I didn’t want Ollie’s blue and green booster high chair to show… so I took two pillow cases and threw them over the parts I didn’t want to show. The top half was easy because I just slid it on. For the tray part, I cut little holes where the tray connected with the chair and just stapled the excess together underneath. I did it about 30 minutes before the party. Yes, it’s jenky… but it worked so whatever.
OK… here is pretty much everything we used to decorate for Ollie’s “Where the Wild Things are” birthday party. Whatever I couldn’t link below is included in the blog post above. Hope this helps you if you’re planning on throwing a similar party!
Love, Lindsey
