Want to look like a million bucks without spending it? Here are my tips to making your outfits look more expensive…

PASS ON THE PRINTS

Certain prints can look cheap or out of style (minus leopard print, which is always on point). On the flip side, neutrals can look incredibly luxe without breaking the bank. Black, gray, white, beige, and brown are great options.

KEEP IT SIMPLE

Sometimes the simplest outfits look the most expensive. One of my favorite outfit combos is a pair of skinny jeans, a blazer, high heels and a band tee. It’s pulled together and just the right amount of edgy. This is what I wear when I’m running late and don’t have time to put something together.

FIT IS EVERYTHING

If it doesn’t fit right, don’t buy it. Also, invest in a tailor. I like getting my blazers from places like Zara, Forever 21 and H&M and just get them tailored afterwards. They look much more expensive and fit just right.

SAY HELLO TO THE SILK SCARF

This is probably the easiest way to look more expensive. Tying a silk scarf around your neck can elevate any look. Even a simple jeans and t-shirt outfit becomes instantly more styling and expensive-looking with a neck scarf. I also love tying scarves around bags for some added detail or around your wrist like a bracelet.

STRUCTURED BAGS

Structured bags are a must. While I truly believe investing a great bag is worth it, you don’t have to blow your budget on one to look more expensive. I actually have two from Target that I always get compliments on! The key is to get one that’s sturdy and make sure you keep color in mind. Neutral colors and red are all great options.

STOP WASHING EVERYTHING SO MUCH

I get it, you want your clothing to stay clean, but washing them all the time is not going to help. Washing your clothes too much can wear down the fabric. It also fades the color, which makes everything look dingy and cheap. If there’s a stain, do a spot remover with a Tide-to-go stick or with some soap and water. If something starts to stink, you can also freeze it overnight. Not kidding, it actually works.

BUY A STEAMER

Wrinkles immediately give off an inexpensive vibe. But, some pieces can’t be ironed. That’s why you need a steamer. I have the “My Little Steamer Go Mini” and absolutely love it! It’s small enough that it can be packed in any suitcase or carryon.

  1. I am so happy to finally have found someone who agrees with me about the silk scarf thing! I find that they are such an easy way to instantly elevate an outfit making it so chic and more expensive looking, not to mention that you have an eye for fashion! My favorite types are the more Parisian looking ones (blue and white), but I also have become quite into ones with traditional Asian prints after my trip to China in June! Great tips Lindsey!
